Why we built this.

You swapped bikes, or the bike you actually ride runs a 12mm thru-axle, and the adapter that shipped in the KICKR box no longer fits. Wahoo sells replacement parts one at a time, which still leaves you hunting for the lock nuts and spacers. This is the complete replacement set: the drive-side spin cap, both non-drive-side adapters for 12x142 and 12x148, the Shimano HG and SRAM XD/XDR lock nuts, and the two spacers that decide whether your cassette and your brake caliper behave.

Pick your axle
Step 1 of 6
12x142 road or gravel? Use Adapter D. 12x148 MTB boost? Use Adapter E. They are the same part with a different internal sleeve.

Fit the adapter
Step 2 of 6
Slide the non-drive-side adapter through the trainer mount and let it seat against the frame.

Spin cap on the drive side
Step 3 of 6
Screw Adapter C into the drive-side hub shell, then drop the axle through and thread it in.

Lock the freehub
Step 4 of 6
Fit the Shimano HG lock nut for a HG freehub, or the SRAM XD/XDR lock nut for an XDR one. Add the 1.85mm cassette spacer if you are running an older cassette.

Torque it
Step 5 of 6
Tighten the axle to the torque your bike requires - 5 Nm on each side is the usual figure. The O-rings hold the axle even if you are a little under.

Ride
Step 6 of 6
Pedal hard. Forget the part exists.

Care tips to make it last

Wipe with a dry cloth after sweaty sessions.
Re-torque after any fall or impact, even if it feels fine.
Keep the O-rings free of grit and check them every few months - they are what stops the axle working loose.
Store the kit dry. The anodised aluminium and the steel internals do not care for puddles.

Fit & compatibility

Which Wahoo trainers does this kit fit?

KICKR CORE 2, KICKR CORE, KICKR MOVE, and the KICKR v4, v5 and v6. The parts are the ones Wahoo ships with the KICKR, so the fit is the factory fit.

What axle standards are covered?

12x142 mm (road and gravel) and 12x148 mm (MTB boost). Both adapters are in the box. Quick-release bikes do not need this kit at all.

Does it work with a 12x150 mm fat bike or a 12x157 mm super-wide?

No. The kit covers 12x142 and 12x148 only. Email us with your bike make, model and axle standard and we will tell you exactly what fits.

Using it

Which lock nut do I need?

A Shimano HG freehub takes the silver HG lock nut. A SRAM XDR freehub takes the XD/XDR lock nut. Both are included - the one that matches your cassette is the one you fit.

When do I need the 1.85mm cassette spacer?

On a Shimano HG freehub running an 8, 9 or 10-speed cassette, and on SRAM XDR running 11-speed MTB or 12-speed Eagle. With an 11/12-speed road cassette on HG, or 12-speed road on XDR, you do not need it.

Can I use a Zwift Cog?

Yes. Fit the Cog on the cassette as normal and run virtual shifting. The kit is set up for it.

How much torque should I use?

Tighten the axle to what your bike requires - 5 Nm on each side is the usual figure. The built-in O-rings grip the axle so it cannot back out easily, but do not treat that as a substitute for proper torque.
